1. Where do I get Insurance?

Most, but not all, insurance companies handle insurance for the Hummer. I know for a fact that Farmers insures Hummers.

2. What problems do used Hummers typically have?

Hummers need a fair amount of tinkering. It is good to have a dealer nearby.

3. How can I tell if a Hummer has been driven off road very much?

Ask the owner. We put interested buyers in touch with the owner of the Hummer for sale.

4. Where can I purchase tires at a good price?

We have found that Discount Tires offers the best deal and good service.

Note on used Hummers

We receive quite a few requests for inexpensive used Hummers -- under $30,000. We are not aware of any used Hummers in this price range. Hummers are very sturdy and rather expensive vehicles. In addition, Hummers have only been available to civilians since 1992 and, the last we heard, only about 5,365 civilian Hummers have been sold up to October 1997. Unfortunately, for those of you who would love to have a Beast in this price range, the only real option is to wait a few more years until the current Hummers rack up a few more miles and then the price should fall.

Military Hummers

We also get a lot of requests for old Military HumVees. There are many rumors about government's policy concerning Hummer sales. The Defense Logistics agency responded that the National Highway Safety Administration has determined that the military version of the Hummer does not satisfy all Federal Motor Safety Standards and is unsafe for highway use. They go on to state that the Dept. of Defense does not sell Hummers directly to the general public but Hummers are made available to other Dept. of Defense agencies, Federal Civil Agencies and specifically authorized public-purpose entities.
